Associate - Removing file management from your work.

You've finished the letter and printed it, now you should save it. But in what directory, and with what name? How we view letters, and other files, changes over time so that a good file name now quickly becomes indistinguishable from hundreds of others.

The problem is more then just about naming. Why should we waste time on every document entering information that is next to useless? We have better things to do with our time! Or moving files between directories when staff changes, or a hundred other file management chores.

Associate will:

• Remove the need to specify where to save a file -- allowing you to concentrate on what the file is.
• Integrate with applications so that working with files is seamless
• Use a combination of application derived data and user data to "associate" with a file
• Use a refinement technique to "zero-in" on the data you need
• Have built in refinement data for your industry or hobby
• Remember previous user responses and contexts to simplify data entry
• Have a visualisation browser to get an overall view of all your data
• Provide tools to easily modify "associations"

Current product research

Likeable Software is researching a number of areas to be made likeable.

• Reducing the importance of files
  The chore of naming and managing files is coming to an end. Likeable software will take care of storing your work, finding it again, and protecting your data from power failures.
• Peripheral information displays
  Not all information needs your focused attention RIGHT NOW. Likeable software will keep you informed in subtle, non-intrusive ways.
• Rule based notification systems
  Most information becomes important because of a number of interlocking events. Likeable software will continuously monitor thousands of conditions and notify you when an important combination happens (for example, your boss has emailed you three times in the last 10 minutes).
• Repeating history
  Did you do a sequence of commands last year that you need to do again? Or are you being asked the same thing for the 10th time today? Likeable software will remember what you've done in the past and help you find and re-use it.
• No fear experimentation
  Are you afraid of trying things with your software because you may lose work? Likeable software will intelligently, and easily, allow you to backtrack your normal work. And where it can't, the interface will be simple enough that you will be sure that you are doing the right thing.
